Air Conditioner Language

icon

What are Stages?

Stages describe the different levels of output from an air conditioner. A two-stage air will have high and low settings for different levels of demand, while a single-stage model operates at full blast whether it’s needed or not.

icon

What Does SEER2 mean?

The Seasonal Energy Efficiency Ratio (SEER2) is a calculation to determine the efficiency of air conditioning in a heat pump. In simple terms, the higher the SEER, the more efficient your system.

icon

What Makes an A/C Energy Star?

To earn the Energystar rating in Canada, air conditioners must achieve a minimum 14 SEER rating. Manufacturers are also required to perform energy-efficiency tests under rating conditions in accordance with Energystar standards.

icon

What does dB mean?

Decibel or dB is used to measure the loudness of sound, and air conditioners typically range anywhere from 52-75 sound decibels. The lower this number is, the less intense or softer sounding the outdoor unit will be.

What's Better an Air Conditioner or Heat Pump?

In our opinion, a heat pump is a better purchase. If we had to guess, we would say that air conditioners will likely be replaced entirely by heat pumps in the next ten years, and even though natural gas is still affordable (for now), a heat pump can provide a lower cost per BTU by around 8c and above. That said, a heat pump can actually save you money vs. an air conditioner that only costs money. As the cost of hydrocarbons increases globally, a heat pump is a good insurance policy in your back pocket.

What's the Best Air Conditioner Brand?

We wish we had a simple answer, but this is a complex question, and as much as we want to say Carrier, that wouldn’t be fair. The truth is all the big air conditioner brands make amazing products with state-of-the-art manufacturing facilities and strict testing procedures. Where some manufacturers fall short is with the barrier to entry to sell their products. If a brand does not have an aggressive vetting process, its products could end up in the hands of the wrong technician. In short, installation is everything, and you are best to focus on picking the right installers first and the brand second. However, if you are buying a furnace for the first time, we would suggest sticking with dealer-restricted brands that distribute their own products. In most cases, you can trust that manufacturers select firms they are confident will do right by their brand.

Best Dealer Restricted Brands: 1. Daikin 2. Carrier 3. Trane 4. Lennox (Elite Series and above)

What Size Air Conditioner Do I Need for My Home?

The size of the air conditioner you need for your home depends on several factors, including the size of your home, the desired temperature of the home, the level of insulation in your home, and the efficiency of the air conditioner itself. Though not always accurate, the general rule of thumb is that you need one ton (12,000btu) per square foot of above-ground space, and it can be used to estimate during your research. It’s important to note that getting the right size air conditioner is crucial for efficient and effective cooling. An air conditioner that’s too small for your home will have to work harder to cool your home, which can lead to higher energy bills and more wear and tear on the system. An air conditioner that’s too large for your home may cycle on and off too frequently, which can also lead to increased energy consumption, high humidity, and increased wear and tear.

Is Comfort Hub a HRAI member?

Certainly! We are proud to be a member of HRAI (Heating, Refrigeration and Air Conditioning Institute of Canada). Our membership with HRAI demonstrates our commitment to upholding the highest standards of professionalism, excellence, and ethics in the HVAC industry. As a member of HRAI, we have access to ongoing education, training, and industry updates that enable us to provide our customers with the latest technology and best practices in the HVAC field.

What Does "Ton" Mean When Talking About Air Conditioner Size?

When talking about air conditioners, the term “ton” refers to a unit of measurement for cooling capacity, specifically the amount of heat an air conditioner can remove from a home in one hour. One ton of cooling equals the amount of heat that can be removed by melting one ton of ice in a 24-hour period. In terms of actual cooling capacity, one ton of cooling is equivalent to 12,000 British Thermal Units (BTUs) per hour. So, a 2-ton air conditioner has a cooling capacity of 24,000 BTUs per hour, a 3-ton unit has a cooling capacity of 36,000 BTUs per hour, and so on.

Are There Air Conditioner Rebates?

Unfortunately not. However, the Green Homes Grant currently offers up to $5,000 for cold climate air source heat pumps and $4,000 for Energystar-certified air source heat pumps. Here are two of our favorite matchups:

How Much Does an Air Conditioner Cost?

The cost of installing an air conditioner will depend on several factors, including the size of your space, product performance, and the material requirements, but that’s not the answer you’re looking for, and happily, we have data that can help.

The average cost of installing forty air conditioners in 2022 is $4,324. Keep in mind that this average includes all sorts of installations, from entry-level air conditioners all the way up to Energystar-rated systems.

What Warranty Does Comfort Hub Provide?

In most cases, we match the manufacturer’s parts warranty with an equivalent labor warranty. For example, Carrier products have a standard ten-year parts warranty, and we match that with a ten-year labor warranty. This is our way of saying that we stand behind the products we install.

Does Comfort Hub use Sub-Contractors?

Absolutely not. All our technicians are fully licensed employees. Each proposal has a no sub-contractor guarantee, so you can rest assured that your products will be installed correctly the first time around with us; it’s what we do best, after all.
